The Word of God often refers to the Christian life as a race. We do not compete against each
other, but instead, encourage one another as we strive for the awards that await us in Heaven.
There are five such rewards, or Crowns mentioned in the Scriptures:
1. The Crown of Righteousness (2 Timothy 4:8) Given to those who successfully live right with
God and endure the temptations of this world.
2. The Crown of Rejoicing (1 Thessalonians 2:19) This is also called a Soul Winners Crown and is
given to those who win the lost to Jesus Christ.
3. The Incorruptible Crown (1 Corinthians 9:25) Given to those who invest in the things of
eternity and live their life with Heaven in view.
4. The Crown of Life (Revelation 2:10) Given to those who have given their life for the testimony
of Jesus Christ.
5. The Crown of Glory (1 Peter 5:4) Given to those who serve the Lord faithfully in the ministry
of the Gospel.
One day all those who have been born-again will stand before Jesus at the Judgement seat of
Christ. There we will be given rewards according to the way we have lived our lives.
2 Corinthians 5:10 "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one
may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or
bad."
In Revelation 4:9-10 we are given the picture of all believers casting their crowns at the feet of
Jesus. This is our motivation... to live in such a way that we can have something to give back to
Jesus! Thus, as a goal for the New Year:
We are Running to Win in 2010!
